Taking care of business:
Long time no see! After a long hiatus, we are back! I decided to pick this podcast back up after recently reading a comment from iTunes and hanging with my buddy Damien and now this podcast is an excuse for me to show that one guy on iTunes some new music and hang with my buddy once more. We are here on a weekly basis!
Rough End Drag – Hotbed (2017, Heart Beats Strange LP)
A fairly new band out of Birmingham, Alabama. Hotbed has been around since 2015, and after heavy touring for a year have released their debut album. Dreamy west coast vibes with a Southern twang, the perfect intro to an all-around solid album.
Ori & The Will of the Whips – Dan Bull (2017, YouTube Single)
You may have already heard of this guy. Dan Bull is famous for writing many, many memetic rap songs about pop culture and video games. This wispy, airy song is about two friends that venture through a dangerous forest while being stalked by the dangers within it. This is based on a trailer for the upcoming video game Ori & The Will of the Wisps. This dude has a lot of more awesome songs to check out.
SS Ailanthus – Rudy De Anda (2016, Delay, Cadaver Of The Day)
Long Beach has always been at the forefront for great musicians and songwriters in Southern California, and Rudy De Anda does not disappoint. Not as upbeat or poppy as the rest of his songs, but a great example his overall music ability, and a sweet jam to end it with.
Hay Un Lugar – Abraham Osorio (2017, Single)
This is a song I wanted to include for many reasons. Namely that this song has a well plucked guitar and excellently mixed backing tracks for both ambiance and harmonics. This is not Abraham Osorio’s first venture into lyrics but it is a rare one for him. Normally he makes acoustic songs that seem intended to be backing tracks to hymns and psalms. This is an recently made song and you don’t need to be a theist to get that.
Good Grief – Nocturnal Habits (2016, New Skin For OId Children LP)
If you’re looking for some good ol’ fashion Northwest indie, this is the band you want to listen to. Shoegazey sounds with an edge that hails from Justin Trosper and Sara Lund from Unwound, and Dale Crover from The Melvins. The artist on this track alone should make you geek out.
Imaginary Parties – Superfruit (2017, Future Friends)
The second single of the new duo from Pentatonix called named Super fruit, this poppy, bubblegum song has elements that make a massive amount of pop songs popular and catchy while implementing more complicated concepts that would be normally seen in a more cult followed genre such as future bass. This is like a Timberlake song mixed with a YouTube sensation named Sushi’s House. This is a very catchy song and hard to get out of your head.
